ABOUT
Tarangire National Park is one of northern Tanzania's most distinctive safari destinations, famous for its large elephant populations, ancient baobab trees and seasonal wildlife concentrations. The park covers approximately 2,850 square kilometres and takes its name from the Tarangire River, which provides an important source of water for wildlife. During the dry season, animals from the surrounding ecosystem gather around the Tarangire River and other permanent water sources. This can create spectacular concentrations of elephants, buffalo, wildebeest, zebras and other wildlife. Tarangire's landscape is one of its greatest attractions. Large baobab trees rise above the grasslands and woodland, creating dramatic scenery and excellent photographic opportunities. The park is also one of Tanzania's notable birding destinations.
