ABOUT
Lake Manyara National Park is one of Tanzania's most diverse wildlife destinations, located beneath the dramatic escarpment of the Great Rift Valley. Although relatively compact at approximately 648.7 square kilometres, the park contains an impressive mixture of groundwater forests, open grasslands, acacia woodland, wetlands, hot springs and the alkaline waters of Lake Manyara. The park is particularly famous for its tree-climbing lions, an unusual behaviour that has made Lake Manyara one of the most interesting destinations on Tanzania's northern safari circuit. The groundwater forest near the park entrance provides habitat for blue monkeys, baboons, bushbuck and numerous bird species, while open floodplains support elephants, buffalo, giraffes, zebras and wildebeest. Lake Manyara itself attracts flamingos and other waterbirds, while hippos can be observed around designated pools. Visitors can enjoy game drives, bird watching, canopy walks, photography and viewpoints.
